Not Wanted

Friday afternoon I had a powerful urge to leave. Jackie had asked me when I was going home. He said he wanted to have a “relaxing weekend” and seemed disappointed when I told him that Bill wasn’t going down to [REDACTED] until a week from now. He asked me if I could sleep upstairs on the floor this weekend instead of on the couch where I usually sleep, so he could have the living room to himself. Later he told me he was going to try to hook up with one of his “MySpace women.” I took all this a little too seriously and decided that it was very important that I allow Jackie his weekend undisturbed, since he hadn’t had a free one in so long. I called my Aunt to come pick me up, and paid for the gas as well as gave her a little bonus besides.

I had a pretty good weekend in all. I spent it playing Dragon Quest IV and watching old Star Trek episodes. It’s lonesome here as I have nobody to hang out with, but it’s nice at the same time since I have all my home electronics to myself and don’t have to watch things like UFC fights or my brother’s Halo 3 matches.

Delbert came over yesterday and we watched an episode of MST3K: Werewolf from the ninth season (with Mike Nelson). Like most MST3K episodes, it had a few hilarious quips and the movie was funny enough on its own, but most of the episode dragged along without many laughs or scenes of interest. I also went out to eat with him and ordered all-you-can-eat ribs. This was before I discovered the electric bill.

I owe the electric company over $370. I hadn’t paid January yet because I wasn’t sure I was going to stay here, so I just put it off until the next month. Little did I know that each month registered over $150 worth of electricity usage. It looks like this month I’ll be eating lots of ramen noodles and microwavable Chef Boyardee bowls. I’m not used to eating such tiny amounts, usually I have one big meal a day and go the rest of the time without food. I guess that’s why my metabolism is so low. Bro says when you don’t eat regularly your metabolism goes into a “conservation mode” and stops burning calories. He says I really should try to eat something every two to three hours. But that would be too expensive.

Delbert is having a hard time. His last unemployment check came last week, and his car payment is going to be due in a couple. He’s talking about borrowing money off of family members to pay it, but how will that help anything if he can’t find a job? He talks like he’s tried everything — pizza delivery driver, dishwasher, busboy — but nobody will hire him. The job market must be bad out there, or people just hate him on sight. I suspect a combination of both.

I’ve been keeping up my daily tasks pretty well. Just finished my Spanish lesson, though I don’t know how much of it I’ll actually retain. I’m starting to forget some of the earlier lessons that I went through last year. It seems like I’m only able to keep a few weeks of Spanish words in my mind at any one time.

I’m starting to resent the time I spend with my daily hobbies though. It seems like after a nap I don’t get finished until late in the afternoon and by that time I feel like I don’t have enough left to commit to a big videogaming session, even though I rarely play one game for more than two hours at a time. So I end up putzing around on the web or watching television until bedtime arrives. I’ve mentioned some of this before in my entry about sleeping — I don’t seem to have as much time as I would like, even though I have no job. It’s a persistent annoyance of mine.

I’ve been sleeping really well lately however, since I’ve moved my mattress from the floor onto Delbert’s box springs. For some reason, I guess because I’m big and fat now, I can’t sleep well unless I have a lot of support. Sleep quality really makes a difference in how much I end up napping during the day.

I’m supposed to go out with the Brother to have coffee this afternoon. I imagine I’ll cut off this shitty entry here, given that I don’t have anything but trivialities to talk about. I’m just keeping my future self updated. Talk to you later.
