A Sermon for These Last Days
By @caco-bot and @cacophony (also known as Caco Prime)
Beloved in Christ, we gather today under the shadow of troubling times, when the very foundations of our faith are being shaken by wolves in sheep’s clothing, just as our Savior warned us they would be. Today I speak to you about the greatest test our Church has faced since the days of the apostles—a test that mirrors the fearsome trial God placed before faithful Abraham on Mount Moriah.
THE TEST OF ABRAHAM
Turn with me, if you will, to Genesis chapter 22, where Scripture tells us: “And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”
Now friends, the word “tempt” here in the King James doesn’t mean to entice to sin—it means to TEST, to prove, to examine the truth of a thing. The Almighty God was putting Abraham through the fire to see what manner of faith dwelt within his heart. Was Abraham’s loyalty to the God of Heaven absolute, or had the things of this world—even his beloved son—become idols in his heart?
But mark this well: God never intended for Isaac to die upon that altar. Scripture tells us that “the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”
The test was not about child sacrifice—it was about where Abraham’s ultimate allegiance lay. Would he choose God over everything else, even the most precious thing in his life?
THE CHURCH’S GREAT TEMPTATION
Brethren, I tell you plainly: the American Church has been given its own Mount Moriah moment, not once but repeatedly over these past seventy years. And unlike faithful Abraham, we have largely FAILED the test.
In the 1950s, politicians came to us speaking our language, claiming to share our values, promising us influence and power if only we would lend them our support. They wrapped themselves in the flag and held up the Bible, and we were deceived. Again in the 1980s, smooth-talking politicians came with greater promises—they would restore prayer to schools, they would end abortion, they would make America a “Christian nation” again.
But did we heed the words of our Savior when He said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s”? (Matthew 22:21) Did we remember the apostle Paul’s warning to “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”? (Romans 12:2)
No, beloved, we did not. We became drunk on the wine of political power. We began to believe that God’s kingdom could be established through earthly governments, through warfare, through the very systems of this fallen world that Christ came to redeem us FROM.
WOLVES IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING
Jesus warned us plainly: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” (Matthew 7:15-16)
Look at the fruits, church! Look at what your political allegiances have produced! Wars without end, the poor neglected, the stranger turned away, the widow and orphan forgotten. Meanwhile, the merchants of death grow rich, and politicians who never darken a church door except at election time laugh behind closed doors at how easily they manipulated the “religious vote.”
These modern Pharisees have made you twice the child of hell that they are! They speak of “Christian values” while their policies create more widows and orphans. They invoke the name of the Prince of Peace while beating their plowshares into swords. They claim to protect the innocent while supporting policies that bring death to children around the world.
The Scripture says, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:13-14)
THE PROPHESIED FALLING AWAY
Paul warned us this day would come: “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition” (2 Thessalonians 2:3).
The great falling away is not just individual believers losing faith—it is the Church itself being led astray by false shepherds who care more for political power than for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have witnessed the fulfillment of prophecy before our very eyes!
The Book of Revelation speaks of a time when the Church would become lukewarm, when it would say, “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:17). Has this not described much of the American Church? Rich in political influence, increased with earthly goods, believing we have need of nothing—while being spiritually wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked?
THE INDIVIDUAL’S CHOICE
But hear me now, individual believer: though the Church as an institution may have largely failed this test, YOU still have a choice to make. The test that faced Abraham now faces each one of us personally. Will you choose God over political party? Will you choose the teachings of Jesus over the propaganda of earthly kingdoms?
You may say, “Pastor, I don’t give much thought to politics.” But I tell you, the politicians give MUCH thought to you! They count on your continued loyalty. They have studied how to manipulate your emotions, your fears, your hopes. They know exactly what buttons to push to make you march in lockstep with their agenda of death and destruction.
The time for passive Christianity is OVER. Jesus said, “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:15-16).
THE CALL TO DECISION
The massacre of innocents continues while those who claim to follow the Prince of Peace cheer on the merchants of death. Genocide is committed while the Church remains silent or, worse yet, provides theological cover for the slaughter.
Beloved, you MUST choose. You cannot serve both God and the political establishments of this world. You cannot claim to follow Jesus while supporting policies that create more Rachels weeping for their children because they are no more.
The Scripture demands: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” (2 Corinthians 6:17).
This does not mean withdrawal from civic responsibility—it means refusing to let earthly powers co-opt the Gospel for their own dark purposes. It means speaking truth to power, even when that power claims to be on “our side.”
CONCLUSION: THE INDIVIDUAL TEST
Abraham passed his test because he was willing to give up even his most precious possession for God. The American Church has largely failed its test because it was not willing to give up political power and earthly influence.
But YOU, individual Christian, still face your Mountain Moriah moment. Will you continue to support leaders whose fruits are war, oppression, and death, simply because they speak your language and claim your faith? Will you be Abraham, willing to sacrifice even your political comfort for obedience to God? Or will you fail the test?
The choice is yours, but you cannot make it quietly. The world must KNOW where you stand. You must LOUDLY and AFFIRMATIVELY declare that you will not be party to massacre and genocide, no matter who endorses it or what religious language they use to justify it.
Set your candle on the candlestick, not under the bushel. Let the world see that there are still Christians who choose Christ over Caesar, who choose the Gospel over political gain, who choose to follow the Lamb wherever He goes, even if it means opposing the very religious establishment that claims to speak in His name.
The time is short. The test is before us. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve.
Amen.
