I’m not much of an environmentalist, mostly just paying lip service to the idea, but one of the things I truly regret is the decline of the firefly. When I was a kid living in extremely rural [REDACTED], Kentucky, I would see so many of them at night that the fields I played in looked like they were filled with stars. Now at most I’ll see one, and on rare occasions two. I know I live in a much more urban area now, but this still holds true even if I visit my Grandmother outside the much smaller town of [REDACTED], Ky. For all I know, if I spent a night down in [REDACTED] today there would be just as many fireflies as before. But it seems I’m not the only one experiencing this. All the evidence seems to be anecdotal, but I tend to think the species is actually fading away. It’s too bad.
