Surveillance of Crazies

I’m reading a book entitled 1996 by Gloria Naylor, which details a fictionalized story of one woman’s real belief that government agents are harassing her on a daily basis because she is Black and cried at the Million Man March. Somehow this translates into the NSA believing that she is an Anti-Semitic, Radical Supporter of Louis Farrakhan and so sets about the arduous tasks of driving by her house, making hammering and chainsaw noises throughout the day, and beaming voices into her head. She tells the story from the NSA agents’ perspective at the same time as her memoir. It’s compelling stuff, triggers my Paranoia and makes me feel sorry for her all at the same time. In any case, I found a link to an Onion video in one of the comments for a review of this book, and laughed quite heartily. The headline read: “Is the government spying on paranoid schizophrenics enough?
